in unix world, pipe permit user to exchange data between program.

in graphical user interface, user know paste bin. any data can come and go between program

the thing it lack is 
  good history management
  automation

trivia:
  win 3.11 had macro and pastebin manager... but since it become a game os and all those thing is gone
