sometime functionality more impirtant than performance

i have a desire. my own mainframe to play with
i have to admit that it will only be realistic using comodity hardware.
it will look like distributed grid of linux computer.

flaqualakafluke is the mainframe. with 8gigabytes of flash, 512megabyres of ram and almost 1000mips. it is replicated on more powerfull vm on diverse location. mostly coded in python. on a todo list i plan to add my cellphone in it. 

raspberry pi 2 seam legit but no chance with io speed. i would prefer them as compute nodes.
